Barum & Dewar secures further order for Specialist Containers
Barum & Dewar is pleased to confirm a repeat order from a major UK business providing support and fulfilment solutions to the armed forces. The order is for several previously supplied containers that will be shipped globally in support of HM Forces.
Designed to endure some of the most aggressive environments, these containers provide essential protection for equipment in challenging conditions. The original units, supplied years ago, have demonstrated exceptional durability, with many remaining in service far beyond their expected lifespan. Only now are we seeing requests for replacements as some of the earliest units finally reach the end of their operational use.
Barum & Dewar’s commitment to quality and robust design and manufacture ensures that the latest batch of containers will maintain the high standards required for global deployment. These new units will continue to provide the strength, security, and resilience needed to support HM Forces operations worldwide.
Mark Speck, commented, “We are proud to once again be supplying our client with these specialist containers. The longevity of the original units is a testament to the quality of our design and manufacturing processes, and we are delighted to be providing a new batch to support ongoing missions.”
This repeat order highlights the trust that our client and its end-users place in Barum & Dewar’s products, further cementing our reputation for delivering high-performance, mission-ready solutions for the defence sector.

Barum & Dewar Secures Chess Dynamics Contract for Specialist Cases and Racks
Barum & Dewar is pleased to confirm the successful contract for a project with Chess Dynamics, delivering a suite of cases and 19” racks. This order, which has been in development since late 2023, represents another milestone in our strong and trusted partnership with Chess Dynamics, a relationship that has been built over more than a decade of collaboration.
The project involves the supply of 35 assorted large cases and racks, the majority of which will include bespoke routed foam inserts to house and protect electronic equipment, monitors, cables, and associated peripherals. Given the complexity of the equipment, precision-engineered protection was essential to meet the client’s operational requirements.
Working within a tight budget, Barum & Dewar was asked to provide the most cost-effective solution possible without compromising quality or performance. Through careful design refinements and efficiency improvements in the manufacturing process, we successfully developed a proposal that met both the client’s financial constraints and delivery expectations.
With a rapid turnaround required, we are working closely with our case and rack partners to ensure completion within the next 4-6 weeks. The project remains on track, and we are confident that Chess Dynamics will once again be delighted with the quality of our products and services.
Mark Speck, commented, “We have been a favoured supplier to Chess Dynamics since 2011, and this project is another example of our reliable and can-do approach. We look forward to delivering another successful solution and continuing our strong working relationship.”

Successful delivery of repurposed container for SSTL
Barum & Dewar has successfully delivered another repurposed container, this time for Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), as part of the CarbSAR project. Delivered in September, this latest project highlights our expertise in extending the life of specialised containers and our commitment to sustainability.
The container, originally manufactured by Barum & Dewar in 2008, had already undergone modifications for a different project in 2017. This recent refurbishment stands as a prime example of maximising the lifespan of a product, despite its relatively long history in use.
Upon arrival at Barum & Dewar, the container was in quite a poor state of repair, requiring a complete strip-down. Many of the original and previously retrofitted components were replaced to meet the new specifications outlined by SSTL. A major challenge in this refurbishment was the need to increase the container’s load capacity. As a result, the base section underwent a significant overhaul and was thoroughly tested to ensure it fully complied with SSTL's requirements for the CarbSAR mission.
As a client of B&D since 2008, this project is testament to our long-standing collaboration and shared commitment to quality, re-use, and repurposing. The successful delivery of the repurposed container demonstrates our ability to adapt and innovate, helping clients achieve their goals while maintaining a focus on sustainability and operational efficiency.
