Having been selected as one of twenty to participate in the pioneering Growth Advantage Programme (GAP), B&D Managing Director, David Frame graduated last month from Strathclyde Business School.

The Programme which was developed by the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at Strathclyde Business School is the first of its kind in Scotland combining research-based ‘useful learning’, with useful insight from some of Scotland’s most influential entrepreneurs, including Sir Tom Hunter.

GAP is the country’s first dedicated core growth programme designed for and specifically aimed at ambitious entrepreneurs and business owners looking to scale up their businesses. GAP gives participants the opportunity to learn how to grow their business further while building relationships and expanding their network. The Programme aims to enable entrepreneurs and growth-focused business owners to realise their organisation’s full potential.

The K 424 XC Mobile Box Office is perfectly tailored for use in the office or by external sales staff. The dimensions have been designed so that hanging file folders (integrated DIN 821 holder inside the box) and folders fit perfectly inside. These new Fly Racks are equipped with a shallow shock rack frame packed into SKB 3i injection moulded cases. The added value of the Fly Rack is that you can simply transport your rack unit and take it out of the case when needed. Technical details: The internal Fly Rack frames are built of high strength, lightweight aluminium alloy and 11 gauge hot rolled carbon steel rack rails. Moreover, the internal frame contains front and rear rack rails with a 13" rack depth. Some other highlights:

SKB’s 3RS Series Static Shock Rack Transport cases are available in 7 sizes, 3U, 4U, 5U, 7U, 9U, 11U and 14U. Being lightweight, shockproof, watertight, dustproof, heat and chemical resistant, they are perfect for transporting and protecting sensitive electronic equipment.

The inner rack chassis is built of from high strength, lightweight aluminum extrusions with steel rack rails to meet EIA-310 standards. Shock and vibration control is achieved with eight elastomeric isolators rated for a payload range of 18kg to 68kg in standard configuration. Optional extended payload range of 72kg to 136kg can be accommodated as a special order. The interior frame and shocks provide adequate space for sway, ambient air circulation and heat dissipation.

Why was the news that QinetiQ had safely delivered four electric propulsion thrusters to the European Space Agency (ESA) great news for Barum & Dewar?

Because the bespoke custom designed containers used to ensure the thrusters were transported safely were both designed and manufactured by B&D in the UK. QinetiQ have a long established connection with B&D going back to when they were formally known as DERA and B&D have been entrusted with providing transit containers on many of QinetiQ’s most challenging and demanding programmes.

The thrusters are to be used on the BepiColombo mission to Mercury due for launchin 2017, the mission will be a European ‘first’, using a multiple ion engine propulsion module for interplanetary transfer. This delivery of the engines follows seven years of design and development work by QinetiQ. During the mission the thrusters will accumulate a total ‘on’ time of 20,000 hours, or 2.5 years.
