The brief

Barum & Dewar was tasked with providing secure, protective packaging for two heavy pieces of high-value equipment. One part featured a delicate cable that had to be accommodated in the most space-efficient case, without risking damage to the components. It was imperative that the design featured additional protection for the fragile connector, which required independent protection to securely hold it in place during transit.

The solution

The Barum & Dewar team reviewed the equipment and the detailed brief provided by NKT Photonics. Working with 3D CAD data, they designed bespoke foam inserts to ensure the delicate equipment was safely and securely retained and housed in IP rated Peli cases.

"Barum and Dewar worked with our Aerospace and Defence team at NKT Photonics (NKTP) to design a customized Peli case solution for the transportation of one of our laser systems that is comprised of both a fiber laser and a free-space laser. Following an initial design from Barum and Dewar, feedback from our engineers was taken on-board and the designs were quickly updated to meet our requirements, including scaling up to a slightly larger case to ensure adequate foam thickness and protection for the free-space laser system. Mark Speck, Regional Sales Manager for Barum and Dewar, provided excellent customer service with regular communication throughout, and he worked with us to ensure the delivery of the custom Peli cases within our demanding timeframe. Once received, the Peli cases were inspected and tested with our laser system to confirm they met the high quality standards demanded from our customers.
